GOREF

Ganga Orthopaedic Research & Education Foundation (GOREF) was established in August 2002 to facilitate clinical and basic research for musculoskeletal pathologies. The organization was awarded the recognition of Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIROs) by the Government of India, Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (DSIR), New Delhi vide their letter No. 14/488/2008-TU-V dated 30th April 2009 in recognition of the high quality research performed.

GOREF offers various activities such as supporting the academic training of the hospital staff, holding scientific meetings and conferences, funding on-going research activities in respective departments. It has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Ganga Medical Centre and Hospital for utilizing the hospital infrastructure facilities like laboratory, radiological services, patient data, library, research assistance and samples for research extension activities with appropriate consents and ethical approvals. GOREF is supported with IRB, RAB to conduct basic and advanced research.

Ganga Research Centre (GRC) was established in 2015 under GOREF to do cutting edge basic research related to all kinds of musculoskeletal problem using advanced omics approach. It has excellent infrastructure and human resource for performing the basic science component of the research through genomics, proteomics and metabolomics with high quality bioinformatics support. Collaboration between clinicians and basic scientists to address specific issues in the ortho & spine is very unique in this centre. GRC is recognized as a Centre for Advanced Research for Low Back Pain and Degenerative Disc Disease Research by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Deli, India, in 2020.

The institute is supported majorly by GOREF and from DBT, New Delhi, to carry out research to understand the etiology of the disc disease, to develop a non-invasive prognostic biomarkers and new therapeutic strategies for the prevention and reversal of disease. Our main goal of research is to decipher the subclinical infective etiology mediated intervertebral disc degeneration and develop a new antibiotic regime for the treatment of LBP. We conduct Ph.D programme focused majorly on musculoskeletal disorders like disc degeneration to understand the molecular details of disc biology. The research team is lead by Prof. S. Rajasekaran who directs and co-ordinates the translational research of the clinical team at Ganga Hospital and the basic team of the Ganga Research Centre.
